Peter is the director of the mission and Richard Libby is the senior pastor of the on-site church. Michael Hughes is the operations manager at the Venice site, and Wesley Russel takes care of operations at Canyon Country.
The Bible Tabernacle celebrated its 60th anniversary this year, and Rim Church has been with them every step of the way. Through the years, thousands have herd the Gospel message through the efforts of this ministry to those most in need of food, shelter, and hope.
These are some of the ways that the Bible Tabernacle ordinarily reaches out to the needy in the Venice, California community. Pastor Peter Hilst says “Our ministry struggles with the difficulties brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. In spite of these issues, we soldier on. Families are still being housed, the needy are fed, households in our community receive food baskets and the Gospel of Christ is proclaimed. The “School on Wheels” program is helping kids and their parents with tutoring, “study-buddy” and motivators to help families navigate their on-line learning. School on Wheels has offered many contests and incentives for kids to get computers, tablets and other social media devices by completing bonus lessons. Kids and parents are helped to connect with tutors and teachers on a regular basis, giving parents more face-to-face opportunities to interact and grow more familiar with their children’s needs.God’s providence sustains us always, especially during trials.” A new feature is their YouTube channel featuring their Sunday sermons.
For years now, Canyon Country Men’s facility was deemed “unsuitable” for the Christian adult rehabilitation program conducted there. The property has now been sold, but the ministry is continuing on a smaller scale with the transition ministry of “The Passover House.” This ministry houses up to 8 men, assisting them to successfully re-enter society as productive Christian men. The Men’s Ministry has been a staple of the Bible Tabernacle for the past 39 years, and they are diligently searching for a new location to resume their full operation. They ask us to pray for a new location that can meet the many county and state requirements they face.
One of the outreaches of Bible Tabernacle is food distribution to the needy people in the Mar Vista Gardens low income housing complex in Culver city. They pick up donations from willing businesses, organize them into food boxes, and deliver them to the residents of the housing complex 3 to 4 times each week. They are able to fellowship with the people receiving the food, pray with them for their needs, and open doors to share Christ and invite them to attend church services.
Many of the men and women in the complex join with the drivers to help unload and distribute the food, pray a prayer of thanksgiving for the food, and work with the drivers to contact those who most need the food and ensure they are encouraged to attend the distribution. It’s all part of God’s plan, and The Bible Tabernacle is humble an grateful for all that He is doing in this work.
Just thought you’d like to know…The San Bernardino City Mission does a similar food distribution outreach on t 3rd Saturday each month in our area. They need volunteer drivers to take food boxes to low income homes and apartments in San Bernardino. I volunteer as a driver each month, and would love for you to join me in this local mission.
But, back to The Bible Tabernacle, Please join me in prayer for this mission.
--For Peter Hilst, the senior pastor at The Bible Tabernacle, and for Richard Libby, Michael Hughes, Wesley Russell and the staffs at both Venice and Canyon country.
--For the continuing efforts to shelter, feed, clothe, and encourage those in need, both physically and spiritually, in the Venice community.
--For the success of the “School on Wheels” program, helping parents get more involved with their children’s education.
--For the Mar Vista Gardens food distribution outreach. We ask for safety for the workers, continued donations, continued volunteers to do the work, and continued results for the Kingdom of the Lord.
--For the successful negotiations now underway to convert the Canyon Country property to affordable housing, where men can continue to undergo vocational training and sober living under the discipleship ministry.
--and most of all, we pray for the salvation of those who come to The Bible Tabernacle for help.
